Quick Start

Get started with ColorBread in just a few steps

This guide is for first-time users of ColorBread.

Install the plugin, follow a few simple steps, and you can build a color system in minutes.

1. Install the plugin

  1. Open ColorBread plugin page in the Figma Community.
  2. Click Open in... button.
  3. Select your any Figma file.
  4. Click Run button.

2. Open the plugin

  1. Open any Figma file.
  2. Click Actions button of the Figma UI or Press ⌘ + k (Quick Actions)
  3. Search for colorberad.

3. Choose a Base Color

Use the color picker to choose a Base Color.

This color becomes the starting point for the entire palette.

For example, you can use:

  • A brand primary color
  • A main UI color

4. Generate a palette

ColorBread automatically generates a color palette from the selected Base Color.

You can adjust the following values with sliders:

  • Steps
  • Lightness distribution
  • Chroma
  • Hue shift

Changes are reflected in the palette in real time.

5. Apply a recipe

A recipe turns a palette into a semantic color structure that can be used in UI design.

For example, it can define roles such as:

  • Primary
  • Background
  • Surface
  • Text
  • Border

Once a recipe is applied, the color system is structured automatically.

6. Review the preview

In the Preview area, you can see how the generated colors look in a real UI context.

This helps you check things like:

  • Button colors
  • Text contrast
  • Background colors

You can also switch between Light Mode and Dark Mode.

7. Apply it to Figma

When everything looks right, click Bake.

ColorBread will automatically create:

  • Figma Variables
  • Color Styles
  • Semantic color structure

Your system is now ready to use in your design file.

8. Use the Library

In the Library, you can click a swatch from a saved palette to apply it directly to a selected Figma layer.

If that palette is linked to Figma Variables or Color Styles, ColorBread will apply the linked asset instead of a raw color value.
